Trailed By Twenty Hounds

I lit up from Reno….well, it wasn’t really Reno but that sounds better than Badin Lake. Sometimes, I run with the dog. Only once has he crossed in front of me and I did a somersault right over the top of him and landed on the pavement. He just laid down beside me like it was all some new game. But, some of us never learn, so I was back at it again yesterday. Since dogs aren’t doing the whole social distance thing, we have to stop when we come across any of his local buddies. He has his favorites, like Jake the boxer. He used to love all dogs but, now, he has taken a dislike to several. And there’s never any rhyme or reason for this. If the other dog is on a leash (best case scenario) they just both snarl and tug and generally create a nuisance of themselves and us owners just apologize and smile and shrug while saying, “NO! Be nice!” But they aren’t nice. No, they are not. This never worked with Chase either. If he didn’t want to be nice, he wasn’t. End of story. Lately, I’ve tried saying, “Leave it,” in a calm voice like the dog whisperer said to do, to the dog, not my grown son, although I might try this my next visit, but I digress. Anyways, yesterday, we happened upon one of his nemesis, a tiny little terrier type thing, and right behind it came an army of other tiny, snarling balls of fur. My fear here is that my dog will just eat one of them or maybe step on them so I decided the best plan would be to outrun them. Let me just say, if you think tiny dogs can’t run fast, you are incorrect. But, we prevailed, in the end, though I”m a little worse for the wear. Yep. Today, I”m just gonna sneak out the back door. Set out running but I’ll take my time…..
