Elephants on the Beach

Here at Caswell for a week and the elephants are having an enormous amount of fun. Yep. Most of the family has arrived. Everyone cheers when someone new comes in and sighs when someone leaves. Hello and goodbye. I’ve always been much better at the former. The turtle watch people here have pretty much gone crazy, roping off the nests for miles around, or it seems like it, lol! It’s serious business now. I used to help with this when Chase was little and there was pretty much no one else around. He got to hold a baby turtle and name it. He named it pussy cat, without the cat part and we all told him that Tommy would be better, but he was having none of it. The turtle lady announced that it was a fine name and that, one day, a giant turtle with a most inappropriate name would return to Caswell to lay eggs. I’ve walked down to Fort Caswell most days. It’s a long hike. We used to go all through the tunnels and sit on the rocks and watch the ships come in. This is now frowned upon by the Baptist who, somehow, bought the whole place. I’ve practiced drawing circles in the sand for my art teacher who pronounced them just exceptional. We’ve all stayed on diets here except for all the food and wine and chocolate. I forced everyone to wear their cartoon shirts and pose for pictures. They took them off immediately and I haven’t seen them since. Heading out to swim now with the killer waves, jelly fish and shark. What else bad could happen? 2020 has been such a great year so far! Surf’s up!
